5e Hunter of the Dead (Third Party Dhampir Ranger)

This is based on a character I created for a campaign of Curse of the Crimson Lord that didn't happen because our group got a bit tired of d20 for a little bit of time. If she looks a bit oddly proportioned it is because I made the decision that her mortal parent was a halfling since dhampir have the same stats regardless of their heritage. As such, she appeared to people as an especially short human woman.

Pathfinder has an alternate multicalssing method that works a bit like the multiclassing in 4e where features from the secondary class replace feats. In this case, she was a ranger with some cleric capabilities and was dedicated as a hunter of undead for Saranrae. I'm going to do something similar and use feats to borrow cleric abilities. One of these feats will be a homebrewed feat of my own making this theoretical based on two third-person features, a race and a feat.

The feat in question I'm using is this:

Prayer of the Faithful
Prerequisite: Wisdom 13 or higher. Follower of appropriate god or divine philosophy.

Your faith is strong enough to work the occasional miracle.
  • You gain access to a single 2nd Level cleric or 3rd Level paladin Channel Divinity option. You can use this Channel Divinity once per Long or Short Rest.
  • Your save DC for this ability is equal to 8 + Wisdom bonus + Proficiency bonus.
  • As with paladins and clerics, you may lose access to this ability if your behavior does not live up to the demands of your faith.
  • If you are already a Cleric or Paladin, you add this option to your normal Channel Divinity options but do not gain extra uses per rest.
As you can tell by the picture, she is a Strength focused ranger, or Strength and Wisdom at least. Going with the vampire background, I am going with an animal empathy sort of thing so she will be a beastmaster. I have a shape-shifter feat giving limited wild shaping, but I never actually had that as a plan for this character, so it won't be this character.

For this I am using my typical theoretical 30 pt array of 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10.

Reasoning:

2nd to 5th Level

2nd Level - Fighting Style: Defense, Spellcasting, +8 HP (20)
Spells: Hunter's Mark, Cure Wounds

3rd Level - Primeval Awareness, Ranger Conclave: Beastmaster, Animal Companion: Wolf, Companion's Bond, +8 HP (28)
Spell: Speak with Animals

4th Level - Ability Score Improvement: Prayer of the Faithful: Radiance of the Dawn, Wolf +1 Dex, +1 Int, +8 HP (36)

5th Level - Proficiency Bonus: +3, Coordinated Attack, +8 HP (44)
Spell: Lesser Restoration

Reasoning: I am focusing a bit on the healing abilities here. For Prayer of the Faithful I thought about taking Turn Undead, but as she is a hunter more than a protector, the more aggressive Radiance of the Dawn seems to fit her position a bit more. It's a bit odd for Saranrae, perhaps, but I suppose it takes all kinds.

6th to 10th Level

6th Level - Greater Favored Enemy: Fiends, +8 HP (52)

8th Level - Ability Score Improvement: Magic Initiate: Cleric, Wolf +2 Con, +8 HP (68)
Cantrips: Hand of Radiance, Spare the Dying
Spell: Protection from Evil and Good

9th Level - Proficiency Bonus +4, +8 HP (76)
Spell: Conjure Animals

10th Level - Hide in Plain Sight, +8 HP (84)

Reasoning: I went for another feat here as I am of the belief that a lot of these feats are of limited use when you leave them until late in the character build. I might alter my opinion of this in actual game play. Also, the choice of spells I made were partially drawn from the new Starter Spell article on Unearthed Arcana. Hand of Radiance is a burst of radiance damage against all creatures of my choice within 5ft of you. Protection helps protect against mind control.

11th to 15th Level

11th Level - Storm of Claws and Fangs, +8 HP (92)

12th Level - Ability Score Improvement: Resilient: Wisdom, Wolf +2 Dex, +8 HP (100)

Spell: Freedom of Movement

14th Level - Vanish, +8 HP (116)

15th Level - Superior Beast's Defense, +8 HP (124)
Spell: Fog Cloud

Reasoning: Still going for Feats, which is a bit precarious at this point. As this is a theoretical, an actual play would inevitably see things differ from how they come up in actual gameplay, but it could be that the character finds some items like Gauntlets of Ogre Power or the like. The spell selections are split between her devotion to Saranrae and her vampiric heritage.

19th Level - Ability Score Improvement: Str +2, Wolf +2 Dex, +8 HP (156)
Spell: Commune with Nature

20th Level - Foe Slayer, +8 HP (164)

Reasoning: I finally add some actually ability score bonuses in this theoretical. To be honest, this many feats would depend on me playing a game where one of the following is true: I rolled for stats and rolled very well in my major stats; or a campaign where there are ways to gain feats outside of leveling such as rewards for gaining renown or quests and training.
