GUMSHOE Drives and Drivers

These are the rules for how Drives and Drivers affect the Characters in GUMSHOE. Find the GUMSHOE SRD here.

A Driver is a situation that occurs in the game which appeals to your character's drive. There are two kinds.

  • Hard Driver - The Keeper suggests a foolish action that will move the plot forward.
    • Resist it and you either lose 4 Stability or one-third of your current Stability pool, whichever is more.
    • Follow it and recover 2 Stability.
  • Soft Driver - Something tangential to the story triggers your motivation, such as a library of obscure knowledge for someone with Curiosity.
    • Resist it and lose 2 Stability.
    • Follow it and gain 1 Stability.
